2016.01 cause and effect

The immediacy of a direct correlation between a mark and its origin allows painting to shift from abstraction to actuality and become a practical artifact of an event taken place. The expression of the artist’s hand is replaced by depictions of causality – obviating process and engendering a confrontation with reality. These paintings are now tools promoting a conscious awareness of architectural space and the viewer’s presence within it.
Evan is a Victoria BC based painter with a background in the architectural industry. He received his MFA in visual arts at the University of Victoria in 2017.
